A reducer, also known as a gearbox or speed reducer, is a mechanical power transmission device that reduces the rotational speed of an input shaft (typically from an electric motor or engine) while proportionally increasing output torque, thereby enabling heavy loads to be driven at lower speeds with precise control. Reducers are fundamental components in virtually every industrial sector, including mining, steel production, cement plants, food processing, material handling, packaging machinery, robotics, wind turbines, and construction equipment. The working principle relies on a set of gears (helical, bevel, planetary, worm, or cycloidal) enclosed in a rigid housing, with the gear ratio determining the speed reduction and torque multiplication. Key performance parameters include rated torque (Nm), input power (kW), reduction ratio (from 3:1 to over 10,000:1), efficiency (typically 85%‑98% depending on gear type), backlash (angular play measured in arcminutes), and service factor (based on daily operating hours and load conditions).
